🌿 When Self-Care Isn’t Enough Without Soul Care

There’s a lot of talk about self-care these days — skincare routines, journaling, digital detoxes, and weekend getaways. And while those things can help, I’ve learned that without soul care, even the best self-care eventually feels hollow.
After twenty years in trauma ER and critical care, I watched people’s bodies heal while their hearts stayed shattered. I’ve held hands as families said goodbye. I’ve seen textbook outcomes, and I’ve witnessed miracles so divine that medicine alone couldn’t explain them.
Through all of it, I learned this truth: healing is never just physical — it’s spiritual.
If you’re a woman trying to navigate anxiety, burnout, or emotional pain, please hear me — there’s nothing wrong with needing help. You don’t have to choose between therapy, medication, or prayer. God can work through all of them. Healing from rejection and shame happens through Jesus and the very science He created. Jesus is the only healer of all things and He uses many vessels in his miraculous ways and wonders.
✨ Healing from Rejection and Shame Through Jesus and Science
I used to believe I could pray for everyone but myself. I would intercede for others with my whole heart, but I carried too much guilt to believe God wanted to hear from me. It wasn’t until I experienced counseling, learned how trauma affects the nervous system, and truly encountered God’s grace that I began to understand: my healing was holy to Him.
You can know Scripture in your mind, but when shame lives in your body, you have to let His truth reach your nervous system too. Everyone's journey will look different. My journey with mental health healing and with faith feels like I have been crawling at a turtle's pace. I have seen others thrive much quicker than I in their mental and faith journey. I used to think it was because I was not worthy enough to heal and learn to trust in my faith. I know differently now, and I want you to know this too. Hang on to the fringes of Jesus' garment with all your might if you have to. One day, you'll look up and realize you're walking beside Him.
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3
Science tells us that our bodies remember trauma. Faith tells us that God renews the mind. When we combine the two — body calm and spiritual connection — something miraculous happens: peace starts to feel safe again.
That’s what I call faith-based self-care for women — a sacred rhythm that nourishes your mind, body, and soul.
🕊️ Nervous System Regulation with Biblical Truth
Here’s a trauma-informed practice I often share with women:
Grounding in the Word: When anxiety rises, read Isaiah 26:3:
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.”Speak it slowly until your heart rate softens.
Breathe His Name: Inhale: “Jesus, You are here.”Exhale: “I am safe in You.” Breathing is more than oxygen — it’s agreement with life itself.
Journal Without Judging: Write what you feel, not what you think you should feel. Healing begins when honesty replaces performance.
These are not just “techniques.” There are ways to align the science of calm with the presence of the Prince of Peace.
💗 Christian Wellness Practices for Adults Dealing with Burnout
Many women tell me they’re tired — not just physically, but spiritually drained. The world keeps telling you to hustle, post, achieve, and prove. But Jesus whispers a different invitation:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
That verse isn’t passive. It’s a call to action — an active rest. You have to come. You have to turn off the noise, quiet the scrolling, and return to His Word daily.
Faith-based self-care looks like setting spiritual boundaries, not just digital ones. It’s saying, “I choose peace today, even when productivity screams louder.”
🌸 Practical Faith-Based Self-Care for Women
If you’re ready to begin, here’s a simple rhythm you can start this week:
Sunday:
Scripture Reset — Read one Psalm out loud. Let the Word wash your week clean.
Monday:
Body + Breath — 3 deep, slow breaths. Stretch. Pray for clarity before touching your phone.
Tuesday:
Kindness Practice — Write one kind thing about yourself. God delights in the real you.
Wednesday:
Midweek Worship — Turn on a worship song that makes your heart lift. Let music become prayer.
Thursday:
Quiet Time — Spend 10 minutes in silence. God speaks in whispers, not in a rush.
Friday:
Reflection & Release — Journal what you’ve carried all week. Give it back to Him.
Saturday:
Rest in Creation — Step outside. Let the wind remind you: you are free.
This isn’t another checklist. It’s a love letter from God to your nervous system — an invitation to feel safe being still.
🌿 Faith and Mental Health Belong Together
You can love Jesus and still see a counselor. You can trust God and still take medication. You can be strong in faith and still feel broken.
Healing isn’t the absence of struggle; it’s the presence of God in the midst of it. He never wastes your pain — He transforms it into purpose.
And that’s where true self-care begins: not in perfection, but in presence.
💜 Lolli Pause & Pray
Take a moment right now. Breathe in: “You never left me.”Exhale: “You’re still healing me.”Let your heartbeat become your prayer — slow, steady, and safe in His hands.
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
🕊️ A Final Word from My Heart
Dear one, you are not too damaged, too anxious, or too late to begin again. You are seen by a God who knows your name, understands your biology, and loves your soul. Whether you’re a Gen Z woman taking your first step toward healing, or a helper who’s tired of holding it all together — this is your gentle reminder: Jesus doesn’t just heal bodies. He heals stories.
