Pause & Pray: When Your Healing Feels Too Slow
Some of you are discouraged, not because God has not been faithful, but because healing has not happened as fast as you hoped.
You thought by now you would feel stronger.
You thought by now you would have more peace.
You thought by now the grief would be lighter, the anxiety quieter, the body steadier, the heart less tender.
But here you are.
Still healing.
Still waiting.
Still having days where progress feels painfully slow.
And if you are not careful, you will start calling slow healing a failed healing.
But slow does not mean absent.
Tender does not mean broken forever.
And unfinished does not mean God has stopped working.
Sometimes God heals in layers.
Sometimes He heals the way morning comes—not all at once, but slowly, gently, faithfully, until what was once dark no longer has the same power it did before.
That kind of healing can be hard to honor because it does not always feel dramatic.
It looks like one better day.
One calmer response.
One full breath.
One honest prayer.
One boundary kept.
One night of better sleep.
One moment where hope returns quietly instead of loudly.
That still counts.
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9 (NIV)
At the proper time.
Not your most impatient time.
Not your most frightened time.
Not the moment when you feel most tempted to quit.
At the proper time.
God is not late in your healing just because it is not happening on your preferred timeline.
He is still tending what you cannot yet fully see.
He is still strengthening roots before fruit.
He is still rebuilding places that were damaged more deeply than anyone else knew.
So today, do not despise slow progress.
Do not curse the small signs of life.
Do not dismiss the healing that does not look dramatic enough to impress people.
Do not call yourself hopeless just because you are still in process.
You are not behind.
You are healing at a human pace, under the care of a faithful God.
Prayer
Jesus,
when healing feels slow, keep me from losing heart.
Help me stop measuring progress by perfection and start recognizing the quiet ways You are still at work in me.
Teach me to honor small steps, small strength, and small moments of peace.
When I feel discouraged, remind me that slow healing is still healing.
Give me grace for the process, patience for the journey, and faith to believe that You are still bringing life to places that once felt hopeless.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Reflection
Where have I been calling myself stuck when God may actually be healing me slowly?
